The “Heart of a Champion” Award
Sandra Coker
While a student at Dulles High School, Sandra has always challenged herself academically. She currently has a 5.0 grade point average on a weighted scale.
Sandra is a true leader who is not afraid to work hard. She has played all four years and has been an integral part of two playoffs teams. She is this year’s captain of our Varsity basketball team. She has organized food drives for the needy. She organized and arranged for our team to participate in a Habitat for Humanity build. She leads both vocally and by example.
Sandra played point guard for me the last two years. She had never played the position before but took it on and did an admirable job. Sandra is selfless.
Sandra always played through her physical ailments. She had surgery during Thanksgiving break and didn’t miss a game. She strained her Achilles before our next to last game. She refused to miss the games regardless that we were out of the playoffs race by that time. She is a warrior.
Sandra is or has been a member of the following organizations throughout high school ; Teens Assisting Special Kids (2008-09), National Honor Society (2010-12), Federation of Christian Athletes (2009-12), Black Cultural Awareness Association (2008-10), Medical Reserve Corps (2011-12), She has also successfully completed her Y.E.S. hours-100 hours of Community Service.
Sandra Coker is as fine a young lady as I have known. Her hard work and dedication is only topped by her striving for excellence. Please seriously consider her for this scholarship.
